Collingrove Hill Climb, Easter 1968, with Nigel Tait, Car 92 in front, Trevor Cole Car 44 centre and Neil Johannesen, Car 45. Behind this group, the car ?5, centre background, is quite possibly John Whitehouse.
Neils car, the
NHEJO Austin 7 (45), extensively modified, was built by John Bowring about the
same time as Trevor's Car was built by John Fleming. It originally had a plain
nose similar to Trevor's, but angled forward. Neil replaced this with a standard
A 7 radiator cowl to make it look like a real Austin 7 Racing Car.
While the diligent drivers were all slaving away at the hillclimb, the girls
were visiting the local wineries around Angaston. At the end of the day, after
being packed up for an hour, the tow car (a 1965 HD Holden station-wagon)
returned FULL of wine and giggles. The next day the team all went circuit racing
at Mallala airfield, as the meetings were held over Easter.
